Stewart Downing has admitted that he might move away from Aston Villa this Summer.
The 26-year-old is being heavily linked with a possible transfer to Liverpool and today he has sparked further speculations by saying that he is considering his future.
“I know the club are keen for me to extend my contract as I only have two years left on my deal,” he said.
“However, I am 26 and at a major crossroads in my career so I won’t be committing to a new deal at the moment.”
“I want to keep playing and enjoying my football,” Downing added in an interview with the Northern Echo.
“The most important thing is to play football, but I do want to play in the Champions League at some point.”
Kenny Dalglish is said to be keen on the player and the Reds have a much higher chance of fulfilling his ambition of appearing on the biggest European stage.
It is therefor likely that the two clubs and the player will reach an agreement before the beginning of next season.
