Carlo Ancelotti gave bad news regarding Frank Lampard’s ongoing fitness troubles.
The Italian expected to have the midfielder back for the upcoming match against Sunderland, but he revealed today that it is not going to happen as Lampard has damaged his adductor muscle near the groin area, when training with the team yesterday.
The England international has been struggling with a muscular problem for the past two months and each time he got close to full fitness, he has suffered a set-back.
For Ancelotti this is particularly bad news, as Michael Essien will also miss the weekend game, after picking up a red card in the win against Fulham.
This means that John Obi Mikel, Ramires and Yuri Zhirkov will probably start in Chelsea’s midfield on Sunday.
Nicolas Anelka and Alex are also expected to be picked in the first team.
