Liverpool are set to make a bid for Lyon’s center back, Dejan Lovren.

The Croat has been followed by Kenny Dalglish and his scouts for a while now and following the Reds’ defensive problems this season they are now ready to make a move for the player.

The French team are unlikely to oppose the transfer as they are in financial difficulties and need to raise cash following a deficit of £26 Million last year.

Lovren is 22-years-old and is seen as an ideal replacement for Jamie Carragher, who is expected to finish his playing career at the end of the current campaign.

Liverpool will need to shore up their defense if they are to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title and this transfer could prove to be their solution.

It has emerged that Bolton midfielder – Gary Cahill, is wanted by several top European clubs.

Following a Summer where he was heavily linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur it now seems that Chelsea and Juventus have also entered the race to sign the England international.

Cahill is expected to finally make a move away from  Bolton in January as he wishes to play in the Champions League.

His release clause from the current club stands at £17 million, but with so many top clubs competing for his services it is expected to raise closer to £20 million.

Bolton manager, Owen Coyle, has said in the past that he does not want to lose Cahill, but with the defenders’ contract running out at the end of the current season Bolton will try and cash in while they can rather than risk losing him for nothing in the Summer.

Cahill is now established as a center-back for his national team, which has certainly helped to raise his profile around Europe and alert big clubs on the continent.

Two Premier League clubs are ready to fight it out for the signature of Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian striker currently plays for Porto and has a buyout clause of 30 Million Euros.

The player’s agent, Claudio Mossi, has revealed today that both London clubs have made it clear that they are willing to meet that price.

“England are crazy about Falcao,” Mossi told Maisfutebol.

“Among the leading candidates are Arsenal and Tottenham. They are willing to hit the 30 million clause.”

“The figure is not an extraordinary value for them.”

Porto are still trying to negotiate a new contract with the 25-year-old and Mossi added that Falcao needs time to decide on his future, but that one of his major objectives is to play in the Champions League.

“He is very happy at Porto,” the agent said.

“There he can play the Champions next year. The problem is that every day he is linked with other clubs.

“It is important that he is left alone for a time with his family now to decide.”

Karim Benzema of Real Madrid (Image by americanistadechiapas via Flickr)

Karim Benzema’s agent denies rumours that he has held talks about a potential transfer of the player to Arsenal.

The French striker is one of Arsene Wenger’s targets this Summer and it was believed last week that his representative had visited London to begin negotiations.

However the agent, Karim Djaziri, has today revealed that his trip to the England’s capital was for different reasons.

“I went to London for personal business, not to discuss any transfer,” he said.

“Karim Benzema has a contract with Real Madrid so let’s wait and see.

“He loves Madrid and wants to play every time as he loves playing football.”

But with the Gunners once again failing to win a trophy, Wenger has already suggested that he is looking to spend a lot of money and Benzema is a player he has admired for a while.

It is also known that Real Madrid are not too keen on holding on to the striker and would accept a reasonable offer for him.

Tottenham Hotspur have signed a young Barcelona star.

Harry Redknapp has managed to beat competition from Chelsea in order to pursuade Cristian Ceballos to come to White Hart Lane.

The 16-year-old attacking midfielder did not manage to agree terms with the Spanish Champions and was a free agent.

Both London clubs have invited him to train with them and following those trials the player finally opted to sign for Tottenham.

A source close to Ceballos commented: “The boy captained Barca’s Under-17′s and here we have a proper player, potentially one of the greats if he develops as people think he might,” a source close to the player said.

“He went to Chelsea for two weeks and trained for three days with the first-team before a Champions League game such was the impression he made, but for some strange reason no one seemed to make a decision about him.

“Now, he has signed a three-year contract with Spurs and Harry Redknapp has a player who will be in his first-team within a year.”

This is Redknapps firts signing of the Summer transfer window, but the coach is expected to be busy recruiting new faces throughout the next three months.
